Trial Benefit of PRE-FEEDING TRADE ANIMALS WITH RumenWorks GREEN FEED LICK

Context

Failing to properly prepare cattle for feedlot entry can result not only in animal loss, but also financial loss to producers. Stress and gut health can cause a severe impact to cattle productivity in feedlots.

Objective

To demonstrate the benefits of pre-feeding trade animals with RumenWorks Green Feed Lick prior to going into a feedlot.

Materials and Methods

Location Pallamallawa, NSW
Year 2024
Duration 17 days
Animals  42 trade steers
~349kg starting weight

Feeding Schedule & Rations

Time Point Control Group RumenWorks Green Feed Lick Group
Day 0 (17 days prior to feedlot entry) 353.4kg 348.7kg
Day 17 (feedlot entry) 345.0kg 369.3kg
Difference -8.4kg +20.6kg

Results

The Green Feed Lick group of steers outperformed the control animals. The supplementation of RumenWorks Green Feed Lick gave steers the essential nutrients needed for optimal gut health prior to feedlot entry as well as the ability to better handle transportation stress. This resulted in:

  • Improved feed conversion
  • Improved weight gains
  • Increased return on investment

Conclusion

This trial showed that trade cattle that are transported or go through a sale yard can be stressed, which means that normal digestion is upset by depletion of key minerals and disturbance of the gut flora, resulting in weight loss. This trial shows the benefits you can get in the lead up to putting trade animals on feed. Any trade animal should be supplemented with RumenWorks Green Feed Lick to better enhance their feed efficiency and overall performance.
